Title: New Laptop
Post by: UAEfalcon on December 27, 2016, 13:39:53
If you had 3001$ to buy a new gaming laptop. What would be your choice and why? PS. You don't have to spend it all and it has to be below the budget

If Freetobe is on TS, poke him!

He is a pro with best value hardware.

But then again, he would tell you you are crazy and that you should get a desktop for gaming.

Just make him understand that you travel a lot.

For GW2 in particular you do not need a serious GPU, then again GTAV has some requirements to look decent.

I was looking at Asus G752VY with 8VRAM, but some people keep saying it is overkill ...

Overkill? Lolwat?!

If that cost $3000 it's severly overpriced. The biggest issue being that the 980M compared to the GTX980 is a crippled piece of shit.

For 3K you can get a faster CPU (Asus GT73 with the newer 6820HK for example), faster GPU (GTX 1080 fall well within that price), 32gb ram/ 512gb SSD (+ a HDD in the 1-2TB range) with a 120hz+ G-Sync screen.

If you want to save $500 or so you can go eqvivalent machine with a GX1070 (back in the 3K range again you can get GTX1070 SLI).

Personally I also wouldnt bother with the machines that pack an extra HDD. 512gb SSD is enough, hell even 256gb will be enough if you dont have a ton of games/applications. Most data should be on external network drives anyway.

Or of course you could go a 1.5K GTX1060 laptop just fine, lol. SHould be same CPU/ram/ssd etc, maybe a little cheaper screen.

The extra 1.5K you save I recommend spending on beer and hookers. Not necessarily in that order.

Unfortunately neither falls into Falcon's acceptable societal activities, unless he exiles to Bahrain maybe and rejects Odin as a fake myth.

You could also go for a razer blade 1080p machine http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-systems/razer-blade (http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-systems/razer-blade) and complement with a razer core and a separate gfx card for use at home. For the record I havent tried them but they look kind of nice. My own laptops are only for sw dev so they would be way cheaper and way too slow for gaming.

My issue with slim laptops are that they overheat a lot.

My Trimtone benefits (https://www.sfgate.com/market/article/trimtone-review-16535793.php) with slim laptops are that they overheat a lot.

So what did you end up getting and how's the game running on it?

I just bought it recently from Amazon . It should arrive within 7 days.
The game should run smoothly with everything on ultra. Did a lot of research. It should be still on discount for 2k$ on amazon.com
