Title: Guild Wars 2 Research
Post by: Stef on May 01, 2016, 19:41:35
Hi there,

I managed to put my lifelong interest of gaming into a research topic for my graduate studies. My research topic discusses the context of online gaming and agency within online gaming. My focus is on Guild Wars 2 as an online gaming space. Therefore I am still looking for female players of Guild Wars 2. I would love to have a short interview with you online or I can also pay you a visit for an interview if you rather prefer that and if you live close by off course :-) Anyone up for that?

You can comment here, e-mail me or you can add me StEf.8201

Thanks in advance :-p

I'm sorry but what is your research topic? It doesn't seem to make any sense when you're putting it in context with guild wars 2.

It seems a little odd that you're asking for female gamers only to participate and especially when you mention visiting them for interview...

Just checking this is a legitimate post as it seems a little borderline at the moment.

Hi all,

First of all thank you for being concerned. That makes Far Shiverpeaks forum such a good and honest place. My research is about agency so this means concrete How are of Guild Wars 2 players constructing an avatar. Why some choose the race of Sylvari why others not? Is this important? How do they customize their avatars? In fact how are gamers becoming their avatar and how are avatars articulating with the identity of their creator?
Why only female players? Well, that’s an interesting question. I could pick male players too but seeing the scope of my research I just had to pick between the range of genders. Seeing that i myself am a women i just picked female players  :) I am actually not focusing on the difference between genders i am focusing on the articulation between avatar and player.  ;) Sorry if this wasn't clear in my first post.

I'm sure some females would like to help :) I'm also sure they would like to have verified you're speaking the truth about being a female, somebody confirming your voice would be a good start :)

Good luck with the research!

EDIT: I'm also going to point at the stats of this forum. Which shows we have 6.1:1 male:female ratio :P aka 6.1 males for every 1 female, good luck :D

Hi Stef.

Hope you all the best on your research.

If you could hop on our Teamspeak (ts.farshiverpeaks.com) and have a chat with one of the moderators or admins there to confirm yourself as some players have shown a concern, we can help you through this as much as we can.

This way we can facilitate the interview and such.

Kindly excuse us for requiring these steps but we have NOT dealt with anything like this before and we care about the privacy and security of all of our members.

Thank you

The surveys i've seen regarding gamers are usually done in the form of a link to a survey page/website which allows for anonymity. If you can arrange it in this format, there is a Guild wars 2 Girls Facebook page.

This sounds quite interesting...

I would not mind reading your paper even... if you ever decide to publish it!
